Boats (BB5006) Coastboat Bent Fishing Boat - Model Boat & Fittings is a
scale model of a fishing boat. 'Bent' was built in 1934 in Nr. Vorupor, a
small fishing town on the west coast of Denmark. The local builders in
Klitmoller and Vorupor have been building this type of boat since the thirties
and during this time the design has changed only a little, except that now the
boats are a few feet longer and the wheelhouse is enclosed.
The boats are very seaworthy, but because of their somewhat 'corpulent' design they can only reach a speed of 6 knots and today they are exclusively used for angling. There is no railing on the boats the when three of four men are fishing, for safety's sake, they stand in the extra hatches built into the deck. Weather permitting, fishing starts early in the morning and continues all day. The boat is hauled into the water, stern first by an electric winch. If the weather is hard, however, the boat is turned around on shore so that it can be launched bow first. When the boat comes in it is sailed under full power and using the force of the waves it is beached as high as possible. A line is then made fast to te bow and the boat is hauled onto dry land. The procedure can still be seen at a few points along the west coast of Denmark, around Klitmoller, Vorupor and Lokken. |
